Originari del bergamasco, i Foresti si stabilirono fin dalla fine del trecento in Francia-corta, la ridente zona collinosa ad occidente di Brescia. Essi avevano già acquistata una posizione elevata come la fede un diploma dell'imperatore Lodovico il Bavaro, datato da Trento il 20 gennaio 1330, col quale si concedeva a Tebaldo di Soardino e a Maffio di Odasio "de Forestis" e ai loro successori per linea maschile la cittadinanza nobile, ed una quantità di ampi privilegi per "totam Italian", privilegi rinnovati nei scoli posteriori in varie epoche da vari Sovrani: sono nel 1403 il Duca e la Duchessa di Milano, nel 1497 Pandolfo Malatesta, nel 1428 il doge Francesco Foscari a Barnabò e Galeazzo cittadini di Brescia e Bergamo, nel 1448 "strenuo Giovanni de' Foresti, nostro Connestabile"; sono nel 1512 i provveditori Cristoforo Moro e Paolo Cappello che attestano che Alessandro Foresti condusse sotto Brescia, dalle Valli, circa seicento uomini
