Questa famiglia fu insigne non meno per antichità che per nobiltà e ricchezze. Essa trae il proprio nome dal castello di Orzone presso Cividale di cui fu signora da remotissimo tempo. Nel 1210 passò ad abitare in Udine, alla cui cittadinanza nello stesso anno venne aggregata, e circa un secolo dopo trasferissi ad abitare nel contado di Gorizia, e poscia, fissata dimora in quella città, ebbe luogo tra i più cospicui cavalieri e baroni dello stato arciducale. Sembra che avesse preso stanza anche nella città di Cividale dove nel 1304 possedeva una torre altissima. Il castello di Orzone venne abbruciato dal Patriarca Gregorio di Montelongo nel 1268 in punnizione dell'assassinio del Vescovo di Concordia, di cui uno dei complici fu Giacomo d'Orzone, il quale nel 1234 era stato marchese nell'Istria per il patriarca.
