Famille ancienne et très noble, qui voulait être parmi les premières fondatrices de Venise, d'où elle venait de la ville de Rome, de vertu claire et ancestrale, répandue au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie et du monde. Il avait des tribuns dans les premiers jours et était, lors du lock-out du Maggior Consiglio en 1297, considéré parmi les patriciens. D'autre part, cette famille s'est toujours distinguée pour avoir donné naissance à des sujets distingués à valeur politique et administrative.
