Oriundi di Genova, poi in Polenghera, Nicolò Maria, di Bartolomeo, da Genova, era nel 1729 appaltatore delle munizioni generali del pane per le truppe sarde. Da lui nacque Alberto (n. Torino, ivi 24 dic. 1783), che ebbe per figlio l'avvocato Vittorio. Sposò costui Teresa del conte Vittorio Didier della Motta. Da questo matrimonio nacque fra gli altri, Carlo Giovanni (n. Torino il 31 luglio 1776, dec. 1843), che fu maggiore generale di fanteria, e che chiese nel 1835 la concessione del titolo di conte della Motta. Ebbe con Patenti del 7 apirle 1835 la concessione del titolo di conte per lui e per suo nipote Vittorio Alberto. In questa patente è ricordato l'atto di valore compiuto il 25 giugno 1795, quando all'assalto del colle d'Inferno, si slanciò nelle ridotte nemiche facendo ivi dei prigionieri.
