Famiglia che trasse in prigine cospicue ricchezze commerciando con Levante. Abramo, di Raimondo e di Bella, nato a Livorno il 5 dic. 1805, dotato di alto spirito animatore e di pronta iniziativa, fu uno dei benemeriti pionieri della bonifica maremmana e costruttore in Italia delle prime linee ferroviarie. Per questi suoi meriti e per benemerenze veso la casa Savoia, S. M. Vittorio Emanuele II con decreto di motu proprio 17 ott. 1858 conferì a lui e a tutti i discendenti maschi il titolo di conte con successione primogeniale mascolina. Abramo il 25 nov. 1827 aveva sposato in Livorno Allegra di Abram Samuel Levi Sonsin. da questo matrimonio nacque in Livorno il 25 ott. 1829 Raimondo anch'esso un benemerito dell'agricoltura in Piemonte, nel Veneto, nel reggiano e nel Mantovano aveva promosso inoltre un vasto ed apprezzato allevamento per una razza equina denominata appaunto con l'omonimo cognome, e assai stimata.
