Con diploma 20 Mar. 1541 dall'Imperat. Carlo V furono decorati del titolo di conti del S. R. I; titolo che fu confermato a Carlo-Sebastiano Franci nel 1770, come riporta il Calvi nella sua opera intitolata "Il Patriziato Milanese", stampato in Milano, dal Borroni nel 1875. Varie sono le opinioni circa l'origine di questa famiglia. Si trovano memorie certe di essa verso la metà del secolo XIII. Ha goduto nobiltà in numerose città Lombarde. Lo stemma della famiglia Franci di Milano è : Inquartato; nel primo e quarto di rosso, al leone d'argento coronato d'oro sostenente con la branca destra un castello sormontato da due torrette pur d'oro, nel secondo e terzo d'azzurro, alla fascia d'argento accompagnata da tre stelle di otto raggi d'oro; la fascia sostenuta da tre scogli accostati d'oro. Altro ramo. Antica e nobile famiglia di Empoli il cui stemma riportato nel fascicolo 5647 della raccolta
