Laut Villabianca (Sicilia Nobile, Bd. IV, S. 523) stammt die Familie Francica ursprünglich aus Frankreich und kann sich eines Sinibaldo als Stammvater rühmen, „der der Wächter des kaiserlichen Kabinetts von Arrigo VI war“ und Gouverneur von Kalabrien im Jahr 1196 und der, nachdem er eine Stadt in einem Lehen in dieser Region gebaut hatte, die "von den Überresten einiger französischer Truppen besessen war, die sie bevölkerten und Francica nannten und von denen Francica auch ihre Nachkommen benannte". Überlassen wir Villabianca die Verantwortung für diese Aussagen und nehmen wir an, dass die Familie Francica in der ersten Hälfte des Jahrhunderts nach Sizilien gezogen zu sein scheint. XV ließ sich in Lentini und Syrakus nieder. Es nahm den Beinamen Nava an, weil es dieser alten Familie im Besitz der Lehen, die dieser Familie gehörten, nachfolgte.
