Segundo Villabianca (Sicilia Nobile, vol. IV, p. 523) a família Francica é originária da França e tem como progenitor um Sinibaldo "que foi guardião do gabinete imperial de Arrigo VI" e governador da Calábria em 1196 e que, tendo construiu uma cidade em um feudo na referida região possuída "pelos restos mortais de algumas tropas francesas, que a povoaram e chamaram Francica, e de quem Francica também deu o sobrenome aos seus descendentes". Deixando a responsabilidade dessas declarações para Villabianca, digamos que a família Francica parece ter se mudado para a Sicília na primeira metade do século. XV instalando-se em Lentini e Siracusa. Assumiu o sobrenome Nava, porque sucedeu a esta antiga família na posse dos feudos pertencentes à referida família. Uma Desiata Francica do falecido Marco, de Lentini, com o privilégio de 14 de junho de 1621, obteve o título de Don para si e sua família; a Giacinto,
