En un acta de septiembre de 1166 (de Rubeis: Monum. Eccl. Aquil.) con la que el refugiado Ulrico Marqués de Toscana designó desde Cividale al Patriarca de Aquileja Ulrico (1162-1182) el dominio de cinco pueblos en Friuli, están entre los atestigua Warnero o Guarnero di Faedis y su hijo Odorico. En otro documento de 1186 (de Rubeis 1. c.) ya no se dice del propio Warnero de Faedis, sino de Cucanea; y este es el primer recuerdo de ese nombre que la familia asumió por haber erigido, entre 1166 y 1186, la torre Cucagna sobre el cerro Onomino cerca de Faedis, y por haberse instalado allí definitivamente. Pero la tradición familiar pretende hacer descender este linaje de un Odorico qu.
