Em um ato de setembro de 1166 (de Rubeis: Monum. Eccl. Aquil.) Com o qual o refugiado Ulrico Marquês da Toscana designou de Cividale ao Patriarca de Aquileja Ulrico (1162-1182) o domínio de cinco aldeias em Friuli, estão entre os testemunha Warnero ou Guarnero di Faedis e seu filho Odorico. Em outro documento de 1186 (de Rubeis 1. c.) o próprio Warnero não é mais dito de Faedis, mas de Cucanea; e esta é a primeira memória desse nome que a família assumiu por ter erigido, entre 1166 e 1186, a torre Cucagna sobre o monte Onomino perto de Faedis, e por aí se ter instalado definitivamente. Mas a tradição familiar afirma que esta linhagem descende de um Odorico qu. Schinella di Auemberg, um nobre da Caríntia, que em 1005 obteve do Patriarca Poppo para erguer um lugar fortificado perto de Faedis em defesa da Igreja de Aquileja. Esta afirmação,
