Oriundi da Cecima (Pavia) di cui erano signori feudali, i quattro fratelli Giovanni, Simone, Antonio e Giacomo, castellani nel 1416-17 per il Duca di Milano di Locarno e di Rocca Travaglia, si portarono ad abitare a Biella per sfuggire le vendette dl precitato Duca visconteo, avendo fornito segrete informazioni sulla ribellione dell'Ossola ai messi sabaudi, il Nobile Giovanni Cortella, biellese, e il Nobile Enrico dei signori di Buronzo, vercellese, inviati loro dal capitano generale del Piemonte Enrico Colombier, signore di Vufflens. Il 15 marzo 1420 acquistarono la metà di dieci parti mezza del feudo e del castello di Castellengo, di cui furono in seguito investiti il 9 marzo 1425 e l'8 aprile 1430. Si formarono due rami di questa famiglia, uno vivente in Biella, il quale ebbe la signoria su porzioni di Cerreto e Quaregna, che il Dottore di medicina Bonifacio (morto 1522), di Matteo, discendente da Giovanni,
