Alte und adelige Familie von Fano, ursprünglich aus Gubbio. Sie erkennt als ihren Stammvater einen Enrico Gabriello an, einen Grafen aus dem Elsass, der sich 717 in Gubbio niederließ. Von seinem zweiten Vornamen nahmen die Nachkommen den Nachnamen an. Viele berühmte Persönlichkeiten kamen, die alle stark und mächtig unter den Gubbio-Patriziern waren und Herren der Stadt selbst waren. In Erinnerung bleiben: der selige Eremit Forte von Fonte Avellana, der am 9. Mai 1040 starb, Graziano (1070), Bischof von Ferrara, Lanfranco (1079), Generalkapitän von Roberto, König von Neapel; Girolamo (1098), Anführer der Kreuzritter von Gubbio, die mit Goffredo Buglione ins Heilige Land gingen; Addone (1103) Bischof von Piacenza; Carlo (1120) Herr von Gubbio. In der ersten Hälfte des dreizehnten Jahrhunderts spaltete sich die Familie in mehrere Zweige auf, vertreten durch die Kinder von Gabriele di Ermanno I, der 1185 lebte, nämlich Pietro, Ermanno II, Ubertino.
