Alte und sehr edle toskanische Familie mit Wohnsitz in der Stadt Pistoia, wo sich in der Kathedrale ein Grab befand, von klarer und überlieferter Tugend, die sich über die Jahrhunderte in verschiedenen Regionen Italiens ausbreitete. Der klare Adel der Familie zeigt sich in der Präsenz in den wertvollen Werken: "Wappen und Insignien von Pistoia mit historischen Notizen" von Dr. G. Mazzer und die über viele Jahre von Enrico Ceramelli Papiani (1896) gegründete "Ceramelli Papiani Collection" -1976), ein Fonds, der im Staatsarchiv von Florenz aufbewahrt wird und aus fast 8000 Akten besteht und an toskanische Familien antiken Ursprungs geht, die genealogische und heraldische Informationen liefern, die aus Archivquellen stammen, die im Florentiner Archiv oder in anderen aufbewahrt werden Archivinstitute oder in Regionalbibliotheken. Aus einem von Ser Santi Jomelli am 13. Juli 1598 erstellten Instrument lässt sich ableiten, dass es damals drei Zweige der Adelsfamilie Gai gab, nämlich: von Niccolao, von Corrado,
