Les chroniqueurs vénitiens donnent origine à cette famille paysanne d'Eraclean de ce doge Maurizio Galbaio ou Galonio élu en 764, faisant dériver de ses descendants des familles nobles comme les Querini, les Calbo et les Canal. Certes cette famille n'a pas peu participé à l'histoire de Venise.
