Di origine romana. Il cospicuo ceppo napoletano usò il titolo di Conte e fu illustrato da Galdo e Ingaldo, sembra derivare dalle voci longobarde Waldo, Gualdo, denotanti una selva. Dal materiale documentario vediamo che questa Casata tiene luminoso posto fra le famiglie medioevali che ebbero nel Napoletano vastissimi possedimenti feudali, privilegi, onori, potenza e rinomanza di signoria. Ha dato il suo nome a Galdo di Sicignano e Galdo del Cilento, terre da lei possedute nel territorio di Capaccio. Sotto i Re Aragonesi i Galdo ebbero il dominio delle isole di Procida e di Ischia. Cospicue diramazioni della stirpe fiorirono in Scozia, in Galizia ed in altre parti. Il cospicuo ceppo napoletano usò il titolo di Conte e fu illustrato da celebri letterati, poeti e giuristi. Un ramo di Casa Galdo allignò la sua discendenza a Cicerale Cilento, nella provincia di Salerno.
