Famiglia oriunda di Pescia (Toscana) e stabilitasi a Cesena nel 1506. Il primo di essa fu un Americo. Da prima si chiamarono Nardini e poi gli fu attribuito l'attuale cognome. Fu illustrata da chiari personaggi fra i quali Giuseppe e Pietro che appartennero all'ordine senatorio, Vincenzo che morì combattendo nel 1716 contro i Turchi, Francesco che fu creato cardinale dal papa Pio VII. Di essa famiglia si formarono 2 rami, uno dei quali si estinse con Carlo prelato. Altro ramo. Sono un ramo dei Tomei di Pietrasanta, così chiamati da un Tommaso che fiorì circa al 1400; e presero il cognome di G. da un tal Nardo nipote di Guido che si chiamò per soprannome G., e fu capitano e contestabile di fanti. Ebbe questa famiglia la contea di Corvaia e Vallecchhia nella Versilia.
