Il progenitor di questa nobile ed antica famiglia in Sicilia secondo si è ritrovato in Giacomo Bonfadio supplitore dell'Historie di Goffrido Monaco de' Prinicipi Normanni, fù Baldovino cavalier greco: Costui havendosi distaccato dell'ubidienza dell'Imperator Paleologo per cagion d'alcuni accidenti se ne passò a i serviggi del Rè Roggiero di Sicilia, ch'era di quello capital nemico, e sotto la sua militar disciplina felici progressi vi fece, Mà desioso di continualri prese per sua habitatione la Città di Messina, ed ivi nobilmente la sua famiglia fondò.Ne nacquero da costui Benerio Rubberto, e Guglielmo, i quali anche con splendore sotto i Reggi Guglielmo primo, e secondo vissero; uno di costoro che fù il Guglielmo si casò in Palermo, e quivi diede origine alla sua famiglia, e gl'altri duo fratelli seguirono la loro posterità in Messina.
