Famiglia assai antica ed illustre che, come dice il Dolfi nella sua "Cronologia delle famiglie nobili di Bologna, con le loro insegne, e nel fine i cimieri", stampato in Bologna presso Giovan Battista Ferroni nel 1670, proviene da Bologna. Giambattista , dopo essere stato pretore a Camporgiano in Garfagnana e per molti anni podestà di Monfestino, fu podestà di Sassuolo nel 1798. Qual fosse nei passati secoli nelle Città dell'Emilia, la Famiglia Galloni, è molto noto a ciascuno, che abbia dei fatti di quella nobile Città conoscenza. La storia di questa illustre città è, infatti, intimamente collegata a quella dell'intera Romagna. Negli albori del secolo XIII quando in tutta l'Emilia fremevano le frazioni dei guelfi e dei ghibellini, che definitivamente sboccarono nella signoria, nella grave lotta tra i guelfi Gambacerri, prima, e quella dei Malatesta, poi, e la fazione ghibellina degli Omodei e dei Pareitadi; guerre e tregue
