Alte und edle portugiesische Familie, von klarer und angestammter Tugend, die sich im Laufe der Jahrhunderte weltweit verbreitet hat. im 12. Jahrhundert blühte der Adlige Pedro Galvão auf, der bereits am 12. August 1179 starb und im Kloster Santa Marinha da Costa begraben wurde, vor dem Altar des Kapitels, wo auch Donna Maria Pais, seine Frau, war begraben. Ihr einziger Sohn, Don Paio Galvão, wurde im selben Kloster erzogen. Er nahm die Religion an, bekannte sie 1178 und war eine hochrangige Person, die Kardinal wurde. Mehr als ein Jahrhundert später blühte João Galvão auf, ein edler Ritter, der im Alentejo lebte und eine Farm an der Algarve besaß. Er war ein Zeitgenosse der Könige D. Afonso IV und D. Pedro I.
