Parmi cette famille son origine en Lombardie, les langages malveillants ne sauraient critiquer l'origine très ancienne, et les progrès de cette famille très claire. D'origine lombarde, ses premiers mémoires à Milan remontent à l'époque de Frédéric II, selon Morgia Paolo dans la "Noblesse de Milan divisée en six livres" imprimée à Milan en 1595. Le même auteur mentionne que c'est l'un des plus familles nobles et anciennes de Milan. De nombreux auteurs de la famille ont décrit des événements et des personnages, lui ont attribué des origines diverses sans aucune attestation valable. La critique historique moderne a, sur la base sûre de documents, justifié les reconstitutions généalogiques artificielles de ces écrivains qui, par un esprit complaisant de flatterie, prétendaient faire descendre cette famille de nobles et anciennes prosapias comme celle des autres familles.
