El origen del apellido Garcés o G., como el de tantos otros linajes, está envuelto en la bruma del pasado, sin que hayan conseguido disipar las sombras que ocultan su arranque las múltiples investigaciones realizadas por numerosos genealogistas, la mayoría de las cuales le atribuyen origen real. Dicho apellido está muy generalizado en Aragón, y es indudable que en el antiguo reino tuvo su cuna, siendo la opinión más generalizada que procede de los antiguos reyes de Sobrarbe y Navarra. Una rama de los Garcés de Marcilla radicó en la villa de Torre Alta, cuyo ayuntamiento se halla agregado a la villa de Torre Baja, ambas del partido judicial de Chelva (Valencia). Sus caballeros fueron señores de Torre Alta y algún autor dice que también la fueron de Torre Baja.
