Originaria di Cortona, passata nel napoletano in seguito alle vicende guerresche di quella città ai primi del secolo XV. Fece parte del patriziato di Amantea, e diramatasi nella seconda metà del sec. XVIII in Barletta, aggiunse al proprio il secondo cognome per il matrimonio di Fabio patrizio barlettano con la vedova di Giuseppe, del quale il detto Fabio adottò i figliuoli. Fu ricevuta nell'ordine di Malta sin dal 1630, e nel 1849 fu riconosciuta nella sua antica nobiltà come quarto di altra famiglia nelle pruove di ammissione nelle RR. Guardie del Corpo. E' iscrizione nell'Elenco ufficiale nobiliare col titolo di patrizio d'Amantea (maschi) nella persona di Michele, di Mario, di Francesco Saverio, n. 15 febbr. 1883, spos. 9 sett. 1904 alla nob. Un Francesco fu senatore di Siracusa nel 1477-78; un Antonio, milite, tenne la stessa carica nel 1488-89; un Francesco, barone della Targia, fu giurato in detta città nell’anno 1521-22; un Giovanni, barone della Targia, nel 1539-40; un Pietro negli anni 1686-87 e 1691-92; un Ignazio, negli anni 1700-1701, 1718-19, 1739-40; un Pietro fu giurato nobile di detta città negli anni 1746-47, 1750-51, 1755-56; un altro Pietro tenne la stessa carica nel 1804-5.
