Anteriormente significó "travieso, ligero de cascos", "juguetón, lascivo, deshonesto". Probablemente participio del verbo garrir, lat. Gabriele "charlar, parlotear", "gorjear". Apellido aragonés, que poseía señorío de la Villa de Sos (Zaragoza). Don Dios Ayuda, tuvo 7 hijos y según refiere la leyenda, todos ellos a servir al Rey don Alfonso XI en la Batalla del Salado. Después de la pelea y llevando sus armas ensangrentadas, Don Dios ayuda y su hijos desfilaron ante el citado Monarca, el cual, al verlos en aquella acción, le dijo "Garridos hijos lleváis". De ahí, les quedo el sobre nombre de Garrido, que desde ese momento utilizaron como apellido. Los ocho, por su comportamiento ingresaron en la Orden de la Banda. Merece especial antención Esteban Garrido, Cabo de Armas del Rey Alfonso XI. Rodrigo Garrido, sirvió al Rey Don Enrique II y se distinguió en la lucha contra Pedro
