La famiglia Ugnano nel 792 si trasferì da Aquileia a Venezia, dove i suoi membri vennero ascritti in quella nobiltà. Un ser Nicolò fu degli elettori del doge Giacomo Tiepolo (1229-1249). Si ritiene che questo ramo si sia estinto in ser Lupin nel 1331, essendo Provveditor all'Armamento. In seguito i membri della famiglia compaiono a Venezia arruolati nelle milizie e sono citati nelle Commissarie dei Procuratori di S. Marco. Poi si trovano tra le famiglie distinte di Pirano, di Isola (Istria), dove un Ugnano fu parroco. Il biografo canonico Pietro Stancovich dedicò nel 1826 i suoi lavori storici al Nob. Sig. Giuseppe di Capodistria". Questa famiglia venne confermata nobile il 3 marzo 1822.
