La famiglia Gavosto trae le sue origini dalla terra di Biella, da dove, nel corso dei secoli, si propagò in diverse regioni d'Italia. Elevata alla nobiltà e fregiata del titolo di Cavalieri, nel 1379, probabilmente per gli alti servigi militari resi a Casa Savoia, nelle acerrime guerre contro i Visconti ed i Fieschi, tal casato si distinse sempre per gli illustri personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra questi, ricordiamo: Cav. Alessandro, dottore in "utroque jure", vivente in Biella, nel 1421; Cav. Luigi, medico, che tanto si distinse per carità e capacità, nell'atroce epidemia di Peste, del 1522, che portò morte e distruzione in tutto il Biellese; D. Saverio, canonico e Pronotario Apostolico, vivente in Asti, nel 1642; Antonio, notaio e consigliere di Biella, vivente nel 1745; Cav. Carlo, chiaro giureconsulto, vivente in Asti, nel 1802; ing. Tommaso, professore e direttore delle Scuole biellesi d'incoraggiamento, membro del Sotto-Comitato di Biella,
