Dovendo trattar di questa chiarissima Famiglia frà l'altre nobili della celebratissima Città di Gaeta, del nostro Regno, accioche, benche estinta detta Famiglia, con la morte di esso Mutio, viva però sempre nella memoria de' posteri, tanto più, che dimostrò egli sempre haverne sommo desiderio, senza però fare, che dal affetto del antica amicitia, venghi in qualche modo occultata, ò alterata la verità dell'historia. Si dice adunque, che dal vedersi la Famiglia G., nobile Caetana, essere alle volte menovata anche Gazo, Gaza, Gazula, Gazul, e Gazullo, per quel che appresso si osserverà; stimasi essere venuta nel nostro Regno, nè tempi de' Rè Angioini dalla Provenza, e essere la stessa, che col nome di Gazula possedè beni feudali, nella Provincia di Calabria, e la prima memoria, che ne habbia osservato ne' Regali Registrii della Zecca di Napoli, è di Bertrando Gazula da Provenza, che per la morte d'Ugone d'Intecastro hebbe nell'anno 1308.
