Ancienne et très noble famille sicilienne, de vertu claire et ancestrale qui s'est propagée au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie. L'origine de ce patronyme est à rechercher dans le toponyme Geraci Siculo (PA), lui-même dérivé de « Hieraki(on) » (= faucon), diminutif du grec « hierax, hierakos » (= épervier), en référence à les nombreux oiseaux de proie qui se trouvent dans la région. En tout cas, cette famille, au fil des décennies, a toujours réussi à produire une série d'hommes qui ont illustré son nom, dans les emplois publics, dans les professions libérales et ecclésiastiques et dans le service militaire. Parmi ceux-ci, sans rien risquer pour la valeur des omis, nous comptons: Stefano, docteur en droit, avocat au tribunal de la Grande Cour, maire de Naro, Girgenti et Licata 1488; Giovan Francesco, qui, avec un privilège accordé le 15 décembre 1498 et exécuté le 16 mars 1499,
