Algunos genealogistas creían que esta familia era del mismo valor que la de los antiguos señores de Gerbais. Esta circunstancia se vio favorecida por el hecho de que mientras los señores de Gerbais se extinguieron con Giacomo, el último de su familia que murió alrededor de 1354, la familia de Gerbaix estaba creciendo. Pero no debe verse en qué mera coincidencia, más aún cuando pensamos que para los señores de Gerbais su calificación estaba relacionada con el feudo, del que eran señores desde principios de 1200, mientras que para Gerbaix no es eso de un apellido familiar.
