La famiglia nel secolo XIV da Bologna si trasferì a Vicenza. Dal 1510 sono fra le nobili famiglie. Da segnalarsi il venerabile Gellio (1559-1616). Un ramo di questa famiglia era insignito del titolo comitale, concesso dal senato veneto con decreto 9 marzo 1619 in premio di speciali benemerenze al cavaliere Giulio ed ai suoi legittimi discendenti, erigendo in contea le sue possessioni chiamate con il loro cognome nel territorio di Thiene. Estintosi nel 1701 il ramo del conte Giulio, il senato veneto con decreto 21 maggio 1735 rinnovò il detto titolo a favore di Alessandro zio, Antonio e Lelio, nipoti e loro discendenti maschi, per cui per terminazione 19 agosto dello stesso anno dei provveditori sopra feudi, i suddetti vennero iscritti nell'A.L.T. Questo ramo si estinse nel 1841. Lucio Giovanni ed Antonio Girolamo, di Gaetano, di un terzo ramo, furono confermati nella nobiltà con Sovrana Risoluzione Austriaca 5 maggio 1820.
