Il signor Francesco Aureux venne in Venezia dalla Fiandra, quale impiegato di Banco al servizio del signor Marino, e tanto seppe cattivarsi l'animo del suo principale, che questi gli procurò in moglie la figlia di un suo amico, ed alla sua morte lo lasciò erede di tutte le sue ricchezze, coll'obbligo però di chiedere il patriziato veneto, e di sostituire al proprio cognome quello attuale. L'Aureux chiese ed ottenne la nobiltà veneta, anche pei suoi figli e discendenti nel 22 settembre 1697 in seguito alla parte ballottata in Senato il 21 settembre detto anno con voti favorevoli 175, contrari 25, non sinceri 5, proposta e presa definitivamente nel Maggior Consiglio il 22 detto mese con voti favorevoli 803, contrari 131, non sinceri 10. Il suo palazzo si trova ai SS. Ermagora e Fortunato in Calle dell'Aseo N°. 1864. Un discendente da questa famiglia era il Cavaliere Domenico Urbani, già Vice-Direttore
