Família antiga e muito nobre chamada Ghiozzi ou Ghiozzo. O sobrenome, muito antigo, deve derivar de uma contração do nome Guidozzo, deste uso temos vestígios em uma escritura de 1298: "...Nieri e Grifolo Todini devem nos dar XIII de janeiro, demoli para eles a Bindo portador do Rose XI libras e VIII soldi e V denários também devem nos dar pela referida razão I libras e XV soldi e VI denários e dados a Bequzzo e Nieri di Ghiozzo VI libras e IV soldi e VII denários...". A antiga nobreza da família Ghiozzo é confirmada pela presença do brasão (descrição do brasão) nos arquivos heráldicos italianos de maior autoridade.
