Es handelt sich um eine Familie, die ursprünglich aus der Burg von Ghivizzano stammt und bereits als Nozi bekannt ist. Sie hatte im 14. Jahrhundert die Lucca-Staatsbürgerschaft und war 1331 bei den Treueid an Johannes von Böhmen und 1369 an Karl IV. Angestellt. Von 1392 bis 1797 wurde sie der Republik übergeben zahlreiche Gonfalonieri und Anziani, während andere wichtige politische Botschafter unterstützten.
