Família descendente, por legítima varonia, de Veríssimo-José G., nat. da Beira, cujo filho Joaquim-José G., nat. da freg. da Sé, Elvas, casou com D. Maria-do-Carmo Velez, nat. da freg. matriz, Borba, filha do capitão António Lopes Velez e de sua mulher D. Mariana-do-Carmo Velez. Daquele casal foi filho António-Joaquim G., que n. em Borba a 9.8.1816 e fal. ib. a 13.2.1898, tendo casado ib., a 13.9.1846, com D. Ana-Joaquina Rosado Curvo, que também n. em Borba a 7.3.1824 e f. ib. a 18.10.1893, filha de Inácio Mendes Curvo e de sua mulher D. Maria-José Rosado, nats. na mesma vila. Foram os pais de Joaquim-José G., 1º visconde de G. (decreto d'el-Rei D. Carlos de 18.5.1891), fidalgo cavaleiro da C. R., comendador da o. de N.ª Sr.ª da Conceição vila Viçosa, diplomado com o curso superior de Letras, notável influente político, tendo militado desde novo no Partido Reformista e, após o Pacto da Granja, no Progressista, procurador à Junta Dsitrital de Évora, presidente da Câmara municipal de Borba e provedor da Misericórdia daquela vila, etc., onde residiu na sua quinta do Barreiro. Tendo nascido em Borba, a 22.3.1849, ali veio a fal. em 5.1927, tendo casado nessa vila, a 28.9.1876, com sua prima D. Maria-do-Carmo Tenreiro de Campos, n. ib. a 9.6.1850, filha de Joaquim-José de Campos, grande proprietário, e de sua mulher D. Mariana-Carolina Velez Tenreiro (a qual era neta mat. dos acima citados capitão António Lopes Velez e mulher D. Mariana-do-Carmo Velez).
