La línea genealógica rigurosamente documentada de esta ilustre y antiquísima familia remonta sus orígenes a un Santiago, conocido como el Maestro de Hungría, cisterciense húngaro (siglos XII-XIII). Contra los nobles y el clero reclutó grupos de plebeyos en Brabante, Picardía y Henao, para liberar al rey hecho prisionero en la cruzada de 1250 y conquistar Jerusalén. Giacomo fue asesinado por los nobles franceses y sus bandas se dispersaron. Otra sucursal. Antigua y noble familia de Mesina, de la que recordamos un Albizo con el cargo de jurado en la citada ciudad de Mesina en 1319, cargo que ocuparon muchos miembros de esta familia.
