Antigua familia siciliana, de clara y ancestral virtud, que se ha extendido a lo largo de los siglos en diversas regiones de Italia y Europa. El origen de esta cognominación, según ilustres genealogistas, debe buscarse en la unión entre el nombre provenzal, "Giaume" (= Giacomo) y el término arcaico "morcaro", (= el que trabaja la morca), probablemente, en referencia a un, hoy desconocido, progenitor, del francés nativo. En cualquier caso, esta casa probablemente fue decorada con el título de caballero, después de la participación, caracterizada por una gran habilidad de las armas, de un Giancarlo, bajo los estandartes de Carlos I de Anjou, en la batalla de Benevento, en febrero de 1266. Pero, además, la familia, siempre, logró distinguirse, gracias a los personajes elevados, a los que dio a luz. Entre estos, sin arriesgar nada al valor de lo omitido, recordamos: Martino, soldado real, que vivía en Caltanissetta, en 1498;
