Antica e nobile famiglia del Regno di Napoli, detto Giaquinta o Giaquinto, la quale ha goduto nobiltà in Napoli, Salerno, Bari, Molfetta, Roma ed in Caltagirone. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di illustri genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata nel personale Giaquinto o Iaquinto, già documentato a Salerno nel 959 e a Molfetta nel 1121, il cui etimo, a sua volta, è il nome comune greco "hyàkinthos", latinizzato in "hyacinthus", ossia "giacinto", come pianta a fiore. In ogni modo, tal casato, in ogni epoca, sempre riuscì a distinguersi, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra questi, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, ricordiamo: Michele, patrizio di Caltagirone, giurato in detta città nel 1493-94; Giovanni, patrizio e senatore di Caltagirone, negli anni 1501-02 e 1503-04; Girolamo, maestro di campo, vivente in Salerno, nel 1561; Giuliano, distintosi nella difesa di Malta contro i Turchi, nel 1565; dott. Filippo, Regio Notaio,
