Famille fort distinguée de Montfaucon, issue de Pierre Gibert docteur ès droits, avocat, juge des seigneurs de Lapte et de la Brosse. Vital Gibert, seigneur de Chazotte, son fils, conseilleur du roi au bailliage du Velay siège de Montfaucon, marié le 8 février 1673 à Marie de Saignard dite de Cansson et en secondes noces le 20 septembre 1696, à Jeanne de Solmes fille de Jean-Pierre, conseiller du roi, laissa: Jean-Baptiste Gibert, seigneur de la Pervanchère et de Chazotte, Ier consul de Montfaucon, avocat en parlement, juge de Lapte, lieutenant du bailliage d'Ulmet, qui épousa le 1er février 1708 Marie-Anne de Lagrevol, d'où: Claude-Vital Gibert, seigneur de Chazotte, avocat en parlement, allié le 13 avril 1740 à Marie-Anne de Figon. Leur descendance encore representée à Montfaucon compte: des avocats en parlement et divers officiers. Nobles alliances.
