The origins of this illustrious family are still shrouded in darkness and discussed and disputed between legend and historical hypotheses. It is common opinion among scholars that it is a branch of the Roman de Gigantibus family and had as its progenitor an Andrea, who flourished in the 16th century, grandson of the noble Francesco de Giganti, nicknamed the gigantic, because of his remarkable stature, man of weapons, passed first to Florence and then to Genoa. The original stock had a home in Rome in the Trevi district, in Piazza di Sciarra in whose facade windows it is written in large letters: Felix de Gigantibus.
