Family originally from Rovato, in the province of Brescia; there lived in 1430 a Bonomo "de Ziliis seu de Tartaionibus"; from these was born Piccino, who still lived in 1475, father of Giovanni and ancestor of Lorenzo and Baldassarre. Lorenzo Gigli was one of the Consuls of Rovato, in 1509. At the time of the occupation of the French by Gastone di Foix, unable to bear the arrogance and abuse of those foreigners, he was the animator of that generous uprising of August 7, when of the Sicilian Vespers, the French were hunted and chased by popular fury, from the strong township. When the stranger returned, Lorenzo fell into the hands of the enemy and was beheaded in the public square. From his brother, Baldassarre, Lorenzo was born in his honor in 1548, who was the father of Baldassarre (1588) husband of the noble Laura Pedrocca. His son Lorenzo (1641)
