Si trovano già nel consiglio delgi Anziani nel 1251. Chiari, con Salvi suo figlio, prese parte nel 1260 alla battaglia di Monteaperti; questo Salvi fu primo dei trentadue priori che i Girolami dettero alla Repubblica dal 1282 al 1502; Geri di Testa ambasciatore a Gregori XII. Oggi non si hanno più notizie di questa famiglia. Molti sono gli autori di nobiliari fiorentini tra cui non ultimi l' Ademollo Andrea e Marietta de' Ricci, che nella loro opera tramandata a noi del 1845 " Firenze al tempo dell'assedio. Racconto storico con note genealogiche sulle famiglie fiorentine, correzzioni ed aggiunte, del Cavalier Luigi Passerini", stampato in Firenze, Chiari nel 1845, assicurano essere questa famiglia proveniente dalle terre di Toscana. Tal famiglia per come riferisce il Gamurrini nell' Istoria genealogica delle famiglie nobili Toscano et Umbro, stampato in Firenze dal Sanesi nel 1641 al volume 6, prende origine già dal XIV secolo.
