Antica ed assai nobile famiglia fiorentina, i cui membri furono signori di Castella, nella Val di Marina e seguaci di parte guelfa, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Ammessi alle magistrature, i Giugni cominciarono a godere il priorato nel 1291, nella persona di Ugolino di Zampa, e, da quell'epoca al 1529, lo conseguirono per cinquanta volte, e diciotto dei Giudici governarono la Repubblica nella suprema carica di gonfaloniere di giustizia. D’altronde, tal famiglia, nel dispiegarsi dei lustri, sempre è riuscita a produrre una serie di uomini che hanno reso illustre il suo nome. Fra questi, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, contasi: Nicolò di Ugolino, ambasciatore e sindaco del Comune nel 1366; Andrea di Nicolò, uno degli otto ambasciatori deputati ad andare incontro a Martino V nel 1418, e nel 1423 commissario di guerra contro i Genovesi; Bernardo di Filippo, il quale fu decorato del titolo
