The surname of this family formed by the name of Giulia della Contessa, mentioned in the Genoese papers in the XII century. Folco di Giulia consul of the placiti in 1178 and 1182. By deed of January 28 1363 the di Giulia settled in the De-Franchi, whence the De-Franchi-Giulia or Giula. Authors who speak of this family: V. Palizzolo Gravina Barone di Ramione, in his work "The Blazon in Sicily or Heraldic Collection", printed in Palermo in 1871-75, offered many interesting news about this family, and of the glorious traditions of this island. Together with Minutoli, Invges, Mugnos and more than a tireless Marquis of Villabianca, the work collected documents, parchments and testimonies transmitted by members of the family who speak of their past, the virtues and deeds of their own schiat.
