O sobrenome desta família é formado pelo nome de Giulia della Contessa, mencionado nos jornais genoveses do século XII. Cônsul Folco di Giulia da placiti em 1178 e 1182. Por ato de 28 de janeiro de 1363, os di Giulia se estabeleceram no De-Franchi, de onde o De-Franchi-Giulia ou Giula. Os autores que falam dessa família: V. Palizzolo Gravina Barone di Ramione, em sua obra "O brasão na Sicília ou coleção heráldica", impressa em Palermo em 1871-75, ofereceu muitas notícias interessantes sobre essa família e sobre as tradições gloriosas desta ilha. Juntamente com Minutoli, Invges, Mugnos e mais do que um incansável marquês de Villabianca, a obra coletou documentos, pergaminhos e testemunhos transmitidos por membros da família que falam de seu passado, das virtudes e ações de seus próprios schiat.
