Antica ed assai nobile famiglia lucana, di probabile origine albanese, con residenze principali in Potenza ed in Roma, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni del Mondo. I riferimenti a tal casata sono antichissimi: un Messer Domenico Giura figura come cavaliere che partecipò alla VI crociata in Terra Santa con Federico II, nell'anno 1229; Marco Giura, alla battaglia di Benevento nel 1266, ebbe lo stemma inquartato con quelle d'Angio; Giovanni Giura nel 1415 fu capitano di Alfonso d’Aragona, re di Napoli, ed ebbe la concessione di aggiungere al proprio stemma quello d'Aragona; Giorgio Giura, ottenne da Carlo V il titolo di barone. Si rammentano, inoltre: Basilio, Valletto nel XV secolo, e Demetrio (fratello del precedente), Capitano di Cavalli, nonché Demetrio (figlio di Basilio), Generale di Battaglia di Ferdinando I d’Aragona. Attanasio (figlio di Demetrio) nel 1472, il quale fu ammesso alla Corte come Familiare e Commensale di Carlo V,
