È memoria di un Grato che fu chiavaro di Cuneo il 24 maggio 1539 e di un Gianfrancesco dottore di leggi, che fu vicario di Bovez il 9 aprile 1570, e di Caraglio il 19 luglio 1575. La genealogia inizia con nessi sicuri con Francesco, che ebbe per figlio l'avvocato Gaspare Giuseppe che fu sindaco di Cuneo e sottoscrisse il 12 settembre 1641 i patti della resa. Dal figlio di costui, Matteo, avvocato fiscale patrimoniale, nacque Gianfrancesco, che ebbe, fra gli altri Gaspare e Matteo, da cui traggono origine al linea comitale e quella nobile. Gaspare fu infeudato del borgo di Passatore da denominarsi San Giorgio, il 6 marzo 1735, e investito col titolo comitale il I aprile successivo. Da suo figlio Giuseppe Maria discese Giuseppe che fu padre di Luisa, la quale sposò in prime nozze suo cugino il conte Vincenzo, e in seconde il presidente di corte d'appello
