Antica ed assai nobile casata dalmata, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni europee. Conosciuta inizialmente come Giorgi o Zorzi, nel tempo i suoi rami assunsero diverse cognominizzazioni, tra cui quella di Gjurgjevic. Occorre qui notare che non sempre la forma originaria del cognome si manteneva intatta nei secoli con la sua primitiva grafia. Spesso a causa di trascrizioni errate, di trasformazioni dialettali secondo le regioni ove la stirpe via via si portava, della scrittura incomprensibile degli scrivani etc., si avevano modificazioni della fonetica e della grafia. In ogni modo, questa famiglia ebbe agnazione comune con la omonima e prestigiosissima casata veneziana, la cui origine vuolsi coincida proprio con quella della città lagunare nel sesto secolo, insignita della dignità dogale (Marino Giorgi, 1311) e iscritta nel Libro d’oro e nell’Elenco ufficiale della Nobiltà italiana; comune agnazione anche per la linea affermatasi quale una delle
