E' di origine tedesca. Suo capostipite Gotthobaldo fratello di San primo vescovo di Osimo estirpatore della idolatria. Famiglia nobile ed illustre, i cui membri vengono chiamati con i titoli di Strenuus vir, Domicellus Auximanus nelle Bolle e Privilegi concessi da Pontefici. Ebbe podestà, rettori e capitani illustri. Ricorderemo: Gothofridus Strenuus miles ac nobilis Vir. Azzo fu tra le prime autorità di Osimo. Attone e Matteo ricordati in un istrumento di pace tra Osimo e Recanati nel 1199. Gottohouldo ricordato in documenti del 1200 a 1217 come "Comes Senogallie et Perpetuus rector". Leopardo podestà di Tolentino, fece rifabbricare il ponte sul Chienti, mettendovi una lapide e il suo stemma. Rettore di Civitanova nel 1273; podestà di Macerata nel 1278. Leone, podestà di Macerata nel 1393 e di Fano nel 1397, Gonfaloniere nel 1410. Battista, governatore di Norcia nel 1440. Leonetta nel 1443 fece insorgere Osimo contro la tirannide di Francesco
