Antica ed illustre famiglia veneta, con prima residenza in Vicenza, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Secondo quanto ci viene tramandato, tal casato discende dal nobile casato mantovano Gobio, in ragion della somiglianza delle armi. In ogni modo, la prima menzione della famiglia, un tempo conosciuta come Gobatti, poi Gobbato circa nel XVIII secolo, si ha nel codice “Alberi genealogici per la più parte di famiglie vicentine“, custodito presso la Biblioteca Bertoldiana di Vicenza, ove si riporta un breve commento ed un albero genealogico della famiglia Gobatti, oggi Gobbato, che fa risalire l’arrivo del capostipite in località limitrofa a Vicenza al 1530. Ed infatti i Gobbato, ab antiquo Gobatti, ebbero residenza in Pianezze del Lago, nel vicentino, ove, verso il 1688 fecero costruire un Oratorio ancora noto come “Oratorio dei Gobbati”. Sul timpano di tale oratorio è presente l'arma della famiglia.
