The ancient historians and genalogists who wrote about the Gondi, willingly picked up the tradition that made them descend from the Philippians placed by Dante among the oldest inhabitants of Florence; more precisely, by that arm Filippi armed knight by Charlemagne in 786. But it is a tradition that does not rely on any document; and therefore it seems preferable to consider as their progenitor that Orlando di Bilicozzo, who sat in the council of the Municipality in 1197, if the progenitor is to be understood as one who inaugurated a fortune.
