Famiglia di origine spagnuola passata in Napoli con Don Juan del Castillo che fu Presidente di Cappa corta del tribunale della Sommaria, e che assunse dopo il cognome che attulmente è ricordato. Lo stesso venne poi nominato Visitatore dei RR. Presidi di Toscana. Suo figlio Giuseppe fu governatore di Gragnano ed uditore di Chieti. Di questi furono figli: Giustino, capitano di vascello della marina borbonica; Emmanuele, contrammiraglio; Domenico e Nicola, colonnelli in Spagna. Da Giustino che sposò Marianna Pisacane dei patrizi di Trani, dei Duchi di S. Giovanni, nacque Raffaele, capitano di vascello (nato 1796); Gennaro, luogotenente generale e Giuseppe, direttore del genio civile.

Partito nel primo di rosso alla banda d'argento accompagnata da due destrocheri armati ciascuno una spada d'argento; nel secondo d'azzurro al castello d'argento aperto di nero, con un cane d'argento passante davanti alla porta, adestrato da un guerriero armato di tutto punto e tenente una alabarda, sul castello un altro guerriero nascente tenente colla destra una spada e colla sinistra un elmo insanguinato: il tutto al naturale.
